About Daniel Island
Part of the city of Charleston, Daniel Island represents one of the area’s fastest growing family communities. A “city within a city,” Daniel Island lies at the very heart of the region, just minutes away from downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, the Charleston International Airport, and other points of interest.
Located on 4,000 acres along Interstate 526, Daniel Island is home to a number of distinctive neighborhoods which feature a mixture of home styles and prices. Traditional landscaped streets lined with sidewalks encourage evening walks and interaction among neighbors; while tennis and soccer facilities draw families to participate in these popular sporting activities.
Daniel Island’s Tom Fazio-designed golf course, which opened in November of 2000, has been ranked among the top 40 real estate courses in America. Currently, residents are awaiting the island’s second 18-hole championship golf course, which is being designed by one of golf’s most distinguished architects, Rees Jones. Construction is expected to begin sometime in 2004.
Access to hundreds of acres of parks, miles of rivers and creeks with fishing docks and boat ramps, bicycle and jogging paths and a private in-town club provide Daniel Island residents with additional social and recreational opportunities.
Downtown Daniel Island also offers residents a variety of businesses and services within walking distance of their neighborhoods. Shops, restaurants, office buildings, medical centers, a spa and fitness center and a modern supermarket, as well as two of the area’s largest employers call Daniel Island home.
Some of the area’s best schools serve Daniel Island. Bishop England, one of the state’s finest private high schools, is within walking distance of residential neighborhoods. The public schools are part of the highly rated Berkeley County school system, which is noted for its physical facilities, low student-teacher ratios and an uncompromising commitment to excellence.
Other highlights on Daniel Island include Blackbaud Stadium, home of the Charleston Battery, the area’s own professional soccer team; and The Family Circle Tennis Center, an 18-court facility which is home of the world-renowned women’s tennis tournament, the Family Circle Cup.
